In response to the recent drop in temperature, the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) has announced new winter timings for all schools and colleges in Islamabad. This decision affects both urban and rural areas and came into effect from October 16, 2023.
Single-shift institutes will now operate from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm from Monday to Thursday, closing at 12:30 pm on Fridays. The FDE has also revised the schedule for double shift institutes. The morning shift will run from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm from Monday to Thursday, and end at 12:30 pm on Fridays. The evening shift will operate from 1 pm to 6 pm from Monday to Thursday, with the second shift commencing at 2:30 pm on Fridays.
Postgraduate colleges have also seen a change in their operating hours. They will now function from 8:30 am to either 2:00 pm or 4:00 pm.
This decision comes as temperatures are expected to fall further across the country, leading to the possibility of similar changes in school timings in other regions. The FDE’s decision was influenced by the weather forecast from the Pakistan Meteorological Department, which predicts rain and thunderstorms in various parts of the country, including Islamabad.
The FDE’s decision to revise school and college timings is a proactive measure to ensure the safety and comfort of students during the colder months. It also reflects the government’s commitment to adapting to changing circumstances and prioritizing the welfare of its students.
